Cassano delle Murge is an ancient medieval hilltop town in the province of Bari surrounded by woods and the Mercadante forest famous for the healthy air it gives to the surrounding area. Strolling through the narrow alleys of the town with its ancient dwellings, small windows and steep steps, one has the sensation of travelling back in time, transporting the imagination into atmospheres with an antique flavour almost like a historical novel populated by characters from ancient trades.
It is in this context that Lizia’s Cakes stands, a place that started out as a simple cafeteria and refreshment point in the town. The café has recently undergone a major renovation following the redefinition of its identity, which has led to the development of a new concept recounted in the interior design choices made by Marco Costanza, the designer entrusted with the café’s restyling project.
Lizia’s Cakes, in fact, has repositioned itself on the market from a simple cafeteria as a bakery specialising in pastries and cakes in general. Famous are the donuts and croissants that delight the palates of customers who define the atmosphere of the premises as relaxing and recognise the excellent quality of the products and service on offer.
The concept of the bakery is in stark contrast to the style of the surrounding cityscape. Entering the premises of Lizia’s Cakes one has the impression of being catapulted into the Berlin of industrial style establishments where the contrasts between materials, wood, iron and vegetation in different forms, are the key elements defining an aesthetic typical of the Nordic style that has now become a modern classic.
The design of the restaurant, although industrial in character, is based on materials with warm tones that, accompanied by lighting, create a comfortable ambience. Predominant is the combination of elements with an industrial look and natural and material elements, including Inkiostro Bianco’s Oxigen wallpaper that reproduces a thick vegetation with a peeling effect eroded by time and rusty metal tones. A perfect decoration to complete the aesthetics of the place that seems to want to bring a little of the nature that surrounds the town of Cassano inside. Wallpapers have the power to create imaginative backdrops, they are perfect allies of the designers as they allow them to build the narrative path of the project and represent the ideal backdrop for those who will enjoy the beauty of the contexts in which they are placed. The decorations, depending on the style, transport one into an atmosphere that will convey different sensations depending on the eyes with which one observes them, but will allow everyone to travel with the mind and imagination.
At Lizia’s Cakes, the scent of croissants mixes with that of the urban atmospheres one breathes inside. A perfect mix and an excellent opportunity to indulge in a relaxing moment alone or in company.
